Sky Dust is a cyberpunk action-adventure Metroidvania developed by Orbit Studio and published by Twin Sails Interactive, set in a fractured São Paulo poisoned by lunar fallout and digital decay. The player takes on the role of a hired blade — a mercenary running dangerous contracts through neon streets, motorcycle chases, and the corrupted layers of a virtual Cyberverse. For this project, I composed the original soundtrack and crafted the ambient soundscapes that hold the city together: long-form exploration ambiences for wandering the megacity's neighborhoods, and combat music shaped by the energy and grit of classic cyberpunk scores.

My Approach

For the exploration ambiences, I worked in long-form audio rather than tight loops. Wandering a Metroidvania-style megacity is an unhurried, atmospheric activity — the player is looking around, taking in the world, finding new districts. Short repeating loops would have given the city away as a video game; long evolving ambient chunks let São Paulo breathe and feel real. The soundscape shifts naturally over time without the player ever noticing the "seams." The combat music took the opposite direction. Drawing on the lineage of cyberpunk scores — pulsing synths, gritty low end, propulsive rhythms with a human edge — I wrote cues built for the game's fast, parry-driven combat. The goal was to feel like the music was riding the player's momentum rather than sitting underneath the fight.

What I Did

  • Composed the original soundtrack — exploration themes and combat cues, all written to support the game's cyberpunk identity and São Paulo setting.

  • Created the ambient soundscapes for the open city — long-form, evolving audio designed for unhurried Metroidvania exploration without falling into obvious loops.

  • Delivered organized, implementation-ready audio assets for the Orbit Studio team to integrate.

Sonic Identity

The musical palette leans into cyberpunk's signature textures — analog and digital synths, gritty bass, layered atmospheres, and rhythmic motion — filtered through the specific feel of a Brazilian megacity that's been through hell and is still standing. The result is a soundtrack that's clearly cyberpunk in its DNA, but rooted in the game's own setting rather than a generic neon-future template.

The Result

Sky Dust is one of the most visually striking indie projects coming out of the Brazilian game scene, with Orbit Studio building something genuinely ambitious alongside publisher Twin Sails Interactive. Being part of its sonic identity — even just as composer of the soundtrack and ambiences — was a real privilege. The game is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
