SpacePunkSurvival

Original Score, Sound Design & Full FMOD Implementation — Tavern Tale Studio, 2023

SpacePunk Survival is a fast-paced multiplayer action game by Tavern Tale Studio. I joined the project in 2024 to handle the full game-audio stack: original music, the complete sound effects package, mixing and mastering, and end-to-end implementation in FMOD. The goal was a soundtrack and sound design that hold up under the chaos of multiplayer — clear, punchy, and readable even when the screen is full of action.

The Challenge

Multiplayer games are one of the hardest environments for game audio. With several players acting at once, the mix fills up fast — weapons, abilities, impacts, UI feedback, ambience, and music all competing for the same space. The core problem on SpacePunk Survival was clarity: every sound needed to stay readable so players could react to what they were hearing, without the music getting buried or the SFX turning into noise. Solving that meant designing the audio system around gameplay readability from the very first cue.

What I Did

  • Composed the original score — loop-ready cues, stems, and transition variations built around the game's pacing and player momentum.

  • Created the full SFX package — UI, weapons, impacts, and ambiences, all delivered with consistent naming and versioning for a clean dev pipeline.

  • Mixed and mastered music and SFX together — tuned for loudness consistency and clarity across in-engine playback.

  • Implemented the complete audio system in FMOD — events, parameters, snapshots, and routing — and supported integration on the dev side.

Audio Highlights

  • A parameter-driven intensity system that escalates the score from exploration to combat and back, so the music breathes with the game instead of sitting on top of it.

  • Seamless loop design with natural entry and exit points, plus stinger support for key moments.

  • Mix translation tuned for gameplay readability — SFX cut through clearly without masking the score, even in dense multiplayer fights.

  • An event structure optimized for iteration speed, so the team could swap and update audio quickly during development.

The Result

Everything shipped cohesive and release-ready: an adaptive score, a tight and punchy SFX package, and a fully integrated FMOD system handed off with clean documentation. SpacePunk Survival is available now on Steam.
